A Vain Attempt to "Catch Up" Part 3: The Homestead and The Badlands

On our way into the Badlands, we happened upon a preserved sod house and homestead that has been in existence (not operational, but still, in existence) for over 100 years! Considering where we're going and what we're going to be doing, it only seemed appropriate to stop and take a look.

A homestead built on a plot of land purchased for $18...that amount of money won't even buy a case of decent beer these days.

Basically a wall of sod. Simple and not the best to look at, but it's stood the test of time, literally. And...

...in the addition, the family chose to put boards up in front of the sod and wallpaper over them to make the interior more sightly. Not my first choice of pattern, though...

No, not the roof in the background...the house actually has cacti and other shrubs growing on its roof.

We were most definitely prairie doggin' it!

Hi.

I think that sign is meant to say "severe" instead of "sever."

What's up, buddy?

I present this picture in original size so y'all can read the anecdotal poem.

And then, of course, there are the Badlands. I can't even think of words. Just go there, if you ever get the chance. You won't regret it.
