A Vain Attempt to "Catch Up" Part 7: Jellystone 2 the Grand Tit-tons

I'll get back to the present tense eventually.

Seriously, I could have spent a week at Yellowstone. As before, I'll let the pictures do most of the talking. Enjoy!

West Thumb Geyser Basin

This made me think of that scene in Liar Liar where Fletcher keeps saying the pen is blue...THE GODDAMN POOL IS BLUE!

The above appear to be bones of a former animal. Ribs, perhaps? Seemed very out of place...

Not much of a divide...

Not much of a divide...

Old Faithful Area

Funny story: We showed up about an hour before Old Faithful was predicted to erupt. We waited. About 10 minutes after the predicted time, a sizable spew came out, but nothing fantastic to write home about. We looked at each other and said "Meh..." and walked away to explore the rest of the park. 5 minutes later, while we were in the woods, we heard the tourist "Ooooooh... Aaaaaah..." and realized the geyser had just erupted. This is all we could see:

Oh well. On to other things:

We eventually did make it back around to the next Old Faithful eruption. It was pretty impressive. I just wish there weren't so many damn people around!

More from the Old Faithful Area, which apparently contains the largest concentration of geysers on the planet.

We set out for the Grand Tetons later that evening.

More to come later...or tomorrow. Time to go slap some lime on some stones! WOOHOO!

The Journey is Over. For now...

We have arrived safely at our destination in Oregon, and wow...it is gorgeous out here! I can't believe this is real. I can't believe we survived the dangers of the open road. I can't believe we survived each other.

A lot of really awesome stuff has happened over the last 11 days, especially in the last few, and I'm almost hesitant to "sit still" for 7 weeks. I'm a little overwhelmed, again, right now, but it's strangely a very good feeling.

I'll have much more some other time, including more fantastic road pics, but for now, I'm safe and enjoying this moment, and I hope you are too.

Happy Monday!

A Vain Attempt to "Catch Up" Part 6: Jellystone 1

I'm going to let my pictures from Yellowstone do most of the talking on this one.

The Mud Volcano Area

I've fallen in love with bison on this trip. Just look at this fella:

Yellowstone Falls

The water has to be 20-30 feet deep here, but because of the cleanliness, the clarity allows you to see all the way to the bottom. Really fascinating, beautiful stuff:

Bah! Rules...

Don't look down:

Mammoth Hot Springs

Looks like snow, right? It's actually limestone.

The first time I've ever seen an elk! More to come later.

Norris Geyser Basin
Warning: gorgeous pics ahead

Bad pic, but we spotted two male elk on our way home!

Oh, and we saw another bison in the road on our way home. Hey buddy:
